Why We Need Your Data (To Make You Even More Awesome)

Dan Barraclough
By Dan Barraclough — August 29, 2024 -

We’ve helped more than 500 savvy brands generate $2.6 billion in revenue by leveraging the world’s best AI-powered referral platform. But without shared data, none of this would be possible.

With shared data, we can continuously optimise your programme, offering accurate forecasting and unique industry benchmarking.

Of course, it works both ways: you share data with us, and we provide unparalleled insights to keep you ahead of the competition. Both parties win.

Below, we’ll explain what data we need and why it’s key to helping you achieve quality acquisition and sustainable growth.

Why share your data?

Want to smash revenue targets? Acquire better customers? The truth is, nailing your referral programme isn’t possible without shared data.

We need your data to help you become even more awesome. Without it, you can’t leverage the world’s best AI-powered referral platform to drive sustainable growth, which means we can’t shower you with unparalleled insights that keep you ahead of the competition.

What do we do with your data?

We forge your data into an arsenal of AI-powered weapons, helping you deal damaging blows to your rivals. The more data you share, the more invaluable insights you receive. Everyone wins.

We need basic economic info — like your number of annual orders and AOV (average order value) — to run A/B tests, forecast your success, and continuously optimise your programme by sharing industry benchmark insights (see image below).

Just think what your competitors could do with those insights. Maybe they’re using them right now. Anyway, more on this later.

What data do we need?

Before driving sustainable growth with Mention Me, we need to ensure we’re the right fit. We only partner with brands that have the right volume and economics — we don’t want to waste your time or money if you’re unlikely to see returns on investment.

To join our ranks of savvy ecommerce brands, you should handle at least 2,000 orders per month and have a minimum of £6 million in on-site annual revenue.

Not quite there yet? No worries — we’ll be here when you’re ready to reach that next level of awesomeness.

Information we need:

  • Industry
  • Annual orders
  • AOV (average order value)

For more accurate forecasting, we might also ask you for:

  • Year-over-year (YoY) growth
  • Volume split per market
  • Meta look-a-like spend
  • Monthly fluctuation in order volume
We’re simply gauging whether we’re the right fit and how to best implement our best-in-class referral platform.

Order volumes for A/B testing

We need your order volumes to run A/B tests, which are crucial to your programme's success. One thing: you need to handle at least 2,000 orders per month to achieve statistical significance in our tests.

Is it worth sharing your order volumes? Absolutely. Our brands typically see a 4x improvement in their referral campaigns within just six months of A/B testing. But don’t just take our word for it:

Bloom & Wild A/B test results

Bloom & Wild-1

Objective: Boost customer acquisition through referrals.
Strategy: Rigorous testing on a wide range of cohorts.
Results:

  • Over 30% of new customers were gained through referrals.
  • In the program's first year, referrals contributed to over 15% of new customer acquisitions.
  • 45% of referred customers became referrers themselves.

“Mention Me has been great to work with and very responsive to our requests and needs. They’re always on hand to provide advice or to help us test something new.”

— Kirsty Macdonald, Senior Marketing & Partnerships Manager, Bloom & Wild

Average order value (AOV) for benchmarking and forecasting

How successful will you be? How much will this cost? In short, we need your AoV to forecast your future awesomeness.

By sharing your AoV and number of active customers in the past 12 months, we can show exactly where your investment will go and how you’re benchmarked against your industry.

Here’s how we turn your data into unmatched referral insights:

Forecasting: Predicting your success

The more data we collect, the more easily we can build a mutual success plan. This ensures we roll out the capabilities that best align with your business strategy and hit your most critical goals. Stop guessing, start anticipating market changes and making informed adjustments.

Benchmarking: Continuous optimisation

Imagine knowing exactly how your industry is performing and where you stand. Our benchmarking capability provides a roadmap to outperform your peers with actionable advice to improve your referral programme.

We show you how your order volume stacks up against others and compare your brand’s ‘share rate’ with ‘purchase rate’, helping identify your most valuable segments. We’re the only referral platform that does this.
